Funding & Partnerships

Competing at the European level.

Residua is built to apply for and host major competitive research funding. Our flagship programme is in preparation for a European Research Council Starting Grant, with the Institute serving as host.

Target programmes

Where we compete

European Research Council

The Institute is preparing an ERC Starting Grant application, with sociology as the home discipline and the social sciences and humanities panel SH3 as the primary panel.

Horizon Europe

We pursue collaborative funding under Horizon Europe, aligned with our open-science and data-management commitments.

Cultural heritage & AI programmes

Our work sits naturally within EU programmes on cultural heritage and on trustworthy, responsible artificial intelligence.

Flagship application

ERC Starting Grant: AI, Material Traces, and Social Worlds

Our flagship programme builds the first interpretable pipeline that infers social difference from the chemical and material traces of past communities, and studies how those inferences become accepted or contested knowledge. Oscar J. Mayorga is the anticipated Principal Investigator.

Host readiness

  • A not-for-profit foundation under Netherlands law
  • Governance that guarantees PI scientific independence
  • Open-access and data-management commitments
  • GDPR and research-ethics frameworks
  • Participant Identification Code: to be registered

Partnerships

A European network

Residua works through a network of universities, laboratories, and heritage authorities. Our flagship cases are designed around genuine European fieldwork and laboratory partnerships, and we welcome new collaborators whose interests align with our research areas.

Proposed and intended partners for the flagship programme include the University of Tirana and Albanian heritage authorities, the University of Tartu group, and a host laboratory for the reflexive case. These collaborations are being developed and will be confirmed before submission.
